If it's echoed thematically in Insomnia, perhaps the echo is this: that in order for someone whose spouse has passed away to fully enjoy any sort of new love, it is necessary for them to forget the traumas that helped enable that love. I'm not sure I've put the bat on the ball with that one, but I think maybe there's something like that going on there.
